Listening to Logic, Avoiding Writing
So I've got a novel to a small handful of agents, a short story into a prominent writing contest and a couple of new stories in the works. I've got a measly 2k words into a new novel and an outline for a short story. What to do? Obviously play Overwatch, listen to Logic and start a blog. I think this is the hardest thing about the fact of writing part-time around my regular job: I have no monetary incentive to write, only an artistic one. The little bit of time I carve away for it (about an hour a day) is so easily eaten up by hanging out with the wife or by doing a bit of competitive grinding on Overwatch. Normally if I use the whole hour, I can pop out about 1500 words. Which is plenty! Even with editing, that's a short story in a couple of weeks and a novel in a few months.
